Mum feeding picky eaterIt’s hard to deal with children who are picky eaters. If you have more than one child and they are all picky eaters, you are obviously having a very hard time. It’s important to feed your kids if you want them to be healthy. Although most parents know how important good food is to their children, they don’t know what to do to make them eat the way they would want them to eat. Here are the things that you should do to teach your children to eat healthy as they grow older;

Create a schedule

Your children should eat after every 3 to 4 hours. They should also drink lots of fluids. If you plan your kids’ meals, you will always be able to ensure that they are taking the foods that they are supposed to take to grow every single day. Your child will also be able to eat without much resistance once he gets used to the eating schedule that you created. When traveling, carry all the foods you need to prevent dependence on fast foods. You should not forget to carry water too.

Serve the same food to everyone

The kids will take eating more seriously when they see everyone else eating what they are eating. Children always want to mimic their parents. They will always want to do what they see you doing. That is why it is important for you to have the same type of food that you want then to eat on your plate.

Do not talk about their eating habits

Although this may be a very hard thing to do, you should do it when you want to teach your children to eat healthy as they grow older. Always remember that by serving a balanced meal, you have already done your job. It is the responsibility of the children to eat. Do not try to force them to eat anything on their plate. Attempting to force them to eat the vegetables will only lead to resistance.

Introduce new types of foods slowly

Most children will don’t like new foods. It will take time before they get used to the new type of food that you want to introduce to them. You should be slow every time you want to introduce a food that they are not familiar with. It will not take long before they fall in love with the new food.

Involve them when choosing and preparing meals

When the children are involved in choosing and preparation of meals, they will be more interested to eat the food once it’s ready. Before preparing your meals, ask them what they want. Take their suggestions seriously. If there is something that they can help you with, do not hesitate to ask them help you.

Allow treats from time to time

Allow your children to take less healthy food occasionally. If you make certain foods forbidden in your house, you are basically making them more appealing.

These tips will help you teach your children how to eat healthy as they grow older. Always insist on the importance of eating healthy foods.
